Open Call for Youth Storytellers

L.A.L.A. From Da Block 2 Broadcast

LaLa Speaks Foundation, in partnership with VOP News STL, is hosting a 30-day Open Call for youth ages 13–19 interested in storytelling, media literacy, and community impact through the L.A.L.A. From Da Block 2 Broadcastinitiative.

This program centers youth voice while promoting brain health awareness, responsible storytelling, and confidence building through short-form media and shared messages.

WHAT THIS IS

L.A.L.A. From Da Block 2 Broadcast is a youth media experience designed to help young people understand the power of their stories and how storytelling can uplift communities, spark dialogue, and raise awareness around brain health and wellness.

Participants will explore:

  • Responsible storytelling and media literacy

  • Short-form content creation

  • Community storytelling and youth voice

  • Brain health awareness and advocacy

No prior media or on-camera experience is required.

IMPORTANT DETAILS 

  • Ages: 13–19

  • Format: In-person cohort (workshop dates announced after the Open Call closes)

  • Call Period: 30 days

  • Cost: Free

  • Requirements: Parent or guardian contact required

  • Experience Level: Open to beginners and creatives of all levels

This Open Call is used to form a youth cohort. Once 15–20 youth are confirmed, workshop dates and partner activations will be scheduled.

LaLa Speaks Foundation is committed to ensuring young people have access to accurate information and safe conversations around brain health. Through storytelling, youth learn how awareness, early knowledge, and community dialogue can help save lives.

This program integrates brain health education in an age-appropriate, culturally responsive way that empowers youth to inform and uplift their communities.
